Trends & Predictions in Technology for 2009 – DTV Switch

Like everything else that has changes and trends, so does technology. In a sense, that makes it no different from fashion, cars or anything else that comes and goes. Yet unlike those things, technology is always evolving. Newer and better all the time, smaller, faster, higher capability and capacity than the last.

With the DTV switch coming up and analog TV going out, we can expect to see Digital TVs prices dropping as well. Like all technology, once it comes main stream, prices drop. Also cable companies may lose even more customers as more stations and sub-stations will be popping up.

Why we Should Check out the Latest in HDTV Technology

United States broadcasting is presently changing to Digital Television (DTV). A digital signal transmits the information for video and sound as ones and zeros instead of as a wave. For over-the-air broadcasting, DTV will generally use the UHF portion of the radio spectrum with a 6 MHz bandwidth, just like analog TV signals do.

The picture, even when displayed on a small TV, is enhanced quality. A digital signal can support a higher resolution, so the picture will still look good when shown on a larger TV screen. TV stations can broadcast numerous signals using the same bandwidth. This is called multi casting. If broadcasters choose to, they can include interactive content or additional information with the DTV signal. It can support high-definition (HDTV) broadcasts.

DTV Receiver-A Vital Link Of Television System.

A DTV receiver is a set-top box that permits the reception of Digital television. Their mechanisms are very similar to a desktop PC. The DTV receiver is a vital link in the chain of television system. The goal of a broadcasting system is to simplify the receivers and makes it as inexpensive as possible.

It is usually connected to the TV set or built-in with the TV set. The main features of a DTV receiver may be classified as follows:
  • Decodes the incoming digital signal;
  • Verifies access rights and security levels;
  • Displays cinema quality pictures on the TV set;

If you walk into a store to look at TVs or search for one online, you will see that there are hundreds of options to choose from. You can get a usual cathode ray tube (CRT) TV set, a rear projector, or a big-screen TV, in dozens of sizes, shapes and colors. Ranging in size from 37 inches to more than 80 inches, big-screen TVs come in several different styles.

Digital Light Processing (DLP)

DLP sets are usually lesser in price than plasmas and LCDs, and they tend to have a better picture. As DLP technology improves, the benefits continue to increase. If you are looking for the most bang for your buck, then DLP sets are definitely an option.

Obama’s View On Digital Tv Conversion

Obama just decided, there should not be a delay in the digital convergence for television. Obama don’t want to be cynical, but I suspect that the big boys in the cable and satellite industries are using monopoly politics as usual. They all use the delay tactic to limit the competition.

Spectators with broadcast reception on digital TV will get a much better program selection and viewing experience. As word of this proliferates the reluctant converts will rush to get converters. A delay won't create demand, just kill it!

Interactive DTV for Marketers To Do Endless Marketing

Whether we realize it or not interactive television is here and the possibilities for marketers are endless. The majority of us now have cable, SKY or similar digital TV and with this comes the ability to interact with our TVs, programs and watch or re-watch what we want when we want, even pause live TV.

With interactive TV though the possibilities are infinite and we need to think past just the website. When customers use interactive TV they are seldom aware they are in fact surfing or interacting as they would on the internet. Because of this they tend to feel safer and those that would never make a purchase on the internet will happily make one on interactive TV.

For marketers this is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our customers in a way never before possible.
